When I log in to XING, I'm directed to the e-mail confirmation page. Why is this?

You haven't confirmed your e-mail yet and are trying to log in with your username and password. When you try to log in you'll be redirected to the confirmation page where you'll be reminded to confirm your e-mail address. If you didn't receive our confirmation e-mail, you have the opportunity here to enter another e-mail address on the confirmation page. (Registration - Step 3).
